Pinhook was founded in 2010 by three long-time friends with a shared vision to bring a fresh take to bourbon and rye whiskey. Together, they created a new vintage approach to blending whiskey, which they put in colorful, modern bottles inspired by horseracing and priced for accessibility.
They named the brand Pinhook after an old Kentucky term for buying young thoroughbreds, nurturing them to maturity, and selling them as they reach racing age. Successful pinhooks–much like whiskey–are made on instinct, experience, a little luck, and a lot of patience. The Pinhook brand pays tribute to the parallels between horse racing and bourbon with bottles inspired by the bright colors and bold geometry of jockey silks and portraits of up-and-coming thoroughbreds.
Pinhook is best known for blending its bourbons in annual vintages. Rather than replicating the same flavor profile each year, Pinhook’s innovative approach allows the team to highlight the most exceptional nuances and characteristics they discover in each year’s barrels, making each vintage release as unique and distinctive as the promising racehorse on its label. Pinhook blends the best--not the same--bourbon every year.
