In this interview, Dennis Carr sheds light on Casa Azul’s journey and how the brand remains relevant and impactful in a changing spirits landscape.

Dennis, since joining Casa Azul Spirits, you have been driving expansion into major markets. Could you share some of the strategies that have been most effective in increasing market share and driving revenue growth?

Since joining Casa Azul Spirits, several key strategies have proven effective in increasing our market share and driving revenue growth. We’ve focused on broadening our distribution network to ensure our products are available in major markets across the U.S. This includes partnering with major retailers including Walmart, Publix, Whole Foods, Total Wine, and BevMo, significantly enhancing our visibility and accessibility. Additionally, we’ve heavily invested in our on-premise presence, ensuring that Casa Azul Organic Tequila is at the top of the mind in key bars and restaurants, driving product trial and advocacy among consumers. These efforts have allowed us to grow brand awareness and create lasting connections with both retailers and consumers alike.

Can you tell us about some innovative market strategies that have helped to differentiate Casa Azul from other brands in the competitive tequila market?

At Casa Azul, we have always aimed to position ourselves as a leader in providing the highest quality, most authentic, and flavor-forward products in the tequila and tequila seltzer category, and this commitment guides everything we do.

With over three decades of experience in brand-building, I’ve learned that a strong brand story combined with a superior product is a winning formula. Casa Azul is built on the rich tradition and craftsmanship of Jalisco, Mexico, where our 100% blue agave is grown on a single estate. We emphasize this heritage in our marketing, allowing consumers to connect with the authenticity of our Tequila and unique ”ground-to-glass” organic approach. Casa Azul Organic Tequila is crafted with no additives, artificial flavors, or preservatives. This results in a distinct, clean flavor profile. In a space with many alternatives that rely on artificial additives or flavor, we differentiate ourselves by offering a pure, authentic Tequila experience. 

What are some recent or upcoming global partnerships you are particularly excited about and how do they align with Casa Azul's strategic vision? 

At this time, our focus has primarily been on building strong partnerships here in the U.S. Through strategic partnerships and engaging campaigns, we’ve also built strong brand awareness and connected with consumers in meaningful ways. One of these recent partnerships that I’m particularly excited about is our collaboration with the Miami Dolphins. Casa Azul is now the Official Tequila Soda of the team and Hard Rock Stadium. Partnering with the Miami Dolphins allows us to bring the spirit of Casa Azul to their incredible fan base. We’re committed to creating unforgettable game day experiences by blending the thrill of professional football with the delicious taste of our Tequila Soda. To us, it’s being part of the energy and excitement that make moments in Hard Rock Stadium special.

However, this partnership is about more than just having our product available in the stadium—we’re leveraging the partnership with co-branded retail programming, influencer partnerships, and engaging social media campaigns. This has also enhanced our presence within the NFL community, aligning us with a passionate fanbase. We look forward to creating unique, unforgettable experiences in Miami, ensuring that every fan can enjoy the perfect game day with a refreshing, premium drink in hand.

We also have an authentic partnership with investor and actress, Eiza González. Born and raised in Mexico and already a global star, Eiza has been instrumental in introducing Casa Azul Organic Tequila to today's modern luxury consumer who appreciates craft and authenticity. Additionally, we are proud to have gained the support of several prominent athletes who are genuine fans of our brand and have invested in Casa Azul. This includes Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce. Their investment not only reflects their passion for Casa Azul but also allows us to create impactful connections with sports enthusiasts.

 Our recent sponsorship of the Luke Bryan Mind of a Country Boy Tour was highly successful this year and allowed us to engage with country music fans across the nation. This partnership showcased our ability to execute a full 360-degree marketing and sales approach, including in-show product integration, on- and off-premise programs, venue concessions, consumer sweepstakes, and more. We also created a buzz through beach-themed on-site activations and exclusive fan giveaways. These efforts enabled us to deeply connect with fans while celebrating the spirit of Luke Bryan’s music. We look forward to finding similar opportunities with other talent and artists in the future. 

We’ve also listened to consumer feedback and adjusted our strategies to meet their evolving preferences. By staying attuned to market trends and consumer demands, we’ve been able to position Casa Azul as a brand that delivers on quality and experience. These domestic partnerships have allowed us to resonate with a wide audience and create meaningful experiences. While we do not currently have any global partnerships, we are always exploring new opportunities that align with our brand’s strategic vision. We look forward to expanding our reach and delivering the same quality and experience to fans worldwide in the future.

Casa Azul emphasizes traditional tequila-making methods and organic farming practices, including natural open-top fermentation with wild yeasts. How do these approaches enhance the quality, flavor profile, unique aromas, and full-bodied character of your tequilas?

At Casa Azul, we take great pride in our commitment to traditional tequila-making methods and organic farming practices. These approaches are essential to creating the highest-quality tequila with a flavor profile, aroma, and character that truly stands out. By staying true to these methods, we ensure that every bottle of Casa Azul delivers an exceptional drinking experience. 

One of the most important aspects of our process is our use of natural, open-top fermentation with wild yeasts. This method is time-honored and rooted in tradition. By allowing wild yeasts naturally present in the environment to ferment the agave, we create a more complex and nuanced flavor profile. 

Our commitment to organic farming is also critical to the quality of our tequila. By avoiding the use of synthetic pesticides and chemicals, we ensure that our agave is pure and additive-free. Organic farming allows the agave to develop its full flavor potential, which is crucial for producing a tequila that is both rich and smooth.

Beyond organic farming, what other sustainability initiatives is Casa Azul involved in, and how do these initiatives impact the local communities and the broader environment? In what ways is Casa Azul Spirits contributing to the community and supporting social causes, particularly in the regions where your agave is sourced and tequila is produced?

At Casa Azul, sustainability is at the core of our mission. We believe that producing premium tequila should also mean positively impacting the environment and the communities we work with. Casa Azul recognizes that the regions where our agave is grown and our tequila is produced are vital to our success. The distillery we are partnered with is also committed to giving back to these communities by providing fair wages and supporting local economies. By investing in people, it helps build a stronger, more resilient community that can thrive alongside our brand. We see social responsibility as essential to our long-term success and the well-being of the regions we work. 

With the successful launch of Casa Azul tequila sodas, the company is set to grab a piece of the RTD market space. Are there any new products or innovations on the horizon that you can share with us?

The launch of Casa Azul Tequila Sodas has been a success, and we’ve been thrilled with the positive reception from consumers. We recently launched our new Playa Pack, introducing two new flavors, Pineapple Coconut and Spicy Margarita. These new Tequila Sodas have resonated particularly well with those who are seeking premium options in the ready-to-drink space. Consumers appreciate that our Tequila Sodas feature real Tequila, sparkling water, natural fruit flavors, and a hint of agave nectar. This sets our product apart from many others in the market that rely on malt alcohol and artificial ingredients. The feedback we’ve received highlights the refreshing taste, balanced flavors, and overall quality of our sodas, which has helped us carve out a niche in the competitive RTD category. 

As we look ahead, we’re excited to continue innovating in ways that stay true to our commitment to quality and authenticity. Our commitment lies in ongoing innovation to deliver a tequila ready-to-drink experience that remains authentic to our brand while also surpassing the expectations of our consumers.

What are your long-term goals for Casa Azul Spirits, and how do you envision the brand evolving over the next five to ten years?

Our long-term vision for Casa Azul is to continue building on the foundation of quality, authenticity, and innovation that has driven our success so far. Over the next five to ten years, we aim to expand our presence by establishing Casa Azul as a leader in the premium tequila and ready-to-drink seltzer categories. As consumer preferences continue to shift toward healthier and more conscious choices, our goal is to continue innovating with products that provide clean, high-quality ingredients while delivering exceptional taste and convenience. With this, Casa Azul is also more than just a tequila brand—it represents a lifestyle rooted in celebration, tradition, and quality. In the coming years, we hope to deepen our connection with consumers by creating experiences and partnerships that reflect our values.
