An Industry icon who worked up her way in the ever-expanding world of mixology.
The lead bartender at The Dorsey at The Venetian Las Vegas, Juyoung Kang has become an industry icon by working her way up in the ever-expanding world of mixology, while also using savvy networking acumen to establish herself as one of the top tastemakers in the country. Kang began her career in her hometown, Philadelphia, shortly before making her way to Los Angeles, where she worked at prestigious luxury resorts including The Peninsula Beverly Hills and Thompson Beverly Hills Hotel.
Upon her arrival to Las Vegas in 2010, Kang tended bar at Comme Ça at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas before opening the downtown nightlife hotspots Park on Fremont and Commonwealth in 2012, including its acclaimed speakeasy, "The Laundry Room," awarded "Best Nightclub with the Best Mixologists" by Las Vegas Review-Journal. A year later, Kang tended bar at the dynamic Las Vegas supper club, Rose.Rabbit.Lie, and BLVD Cocktail Company, before accepting a position at The Venetian at Delmonico Steakhouse in 2015, created by James Beard Award-winning Chef Emeril Lagasse, where she was the lead mixologist.
In late 2016, Kang made her way to open The Dorsey, where she now serves as the lead bartender and mixologist, The Venetian's newest "must-visit" spot for innovative craft cocktails served in a comfortable and upbeat environment. Kang has been an instrumental team member since its opening and has served up some of the most desired cocktails in the city. In addition, Kang leads the efforts in the venue's, 'The Dorsey Collective' which feature ongoing "micro-residencies" showcasing an array of talented visiting bartenders, artists and musicians for an all-new experience.
Combining innovative mixology techniques, an impressive resume, and a passion for cocktail culture, Kang has garnered a considerable amount of acclaim. In 2017, Wine Enthusiast named Kang on its list of "40 Under 40 Tastemakers," and was nominated by Eater Las Vegas as "Bartender of the Year." In 2015, she was the Nevada Restaurant Association's "Bartender of the Year" and, in 2014, won recognition as GQ and Bombay Sapphire's "Most Imaginative Bartender." Other professional accolades include recognition at The United States Bartenders Guild 2015 and 2016 Shake It Up, Liquor.com and Woodford Reserve's 2014 Manhattan Experience, and Bacardi Legacy 2014.
Kang volunteers her time mentoring aspiring industry professionals. In addition to participating in Tales of the Cocktail's prestigious Cocktail Apprentice Program, in which volunteers help put on a week-long event for industry professionals, media, and consumers to educate them on all things cocktail every July in New Orleans, Kang is also a consultant and spokesperson for Cocktail Artist cocktail mixers.
Kang loves to combine her passion for the beverage industry and community involvement. She takes pride in mentoring her team – whereas several of her professional protégés have gone on to win esteemed mixology competitions and have landed positions at the most prestigious bars in Las Vegas.
Most recently, Kang participated in Whiskey in Wilderness, benefitting the Urban Seed Foundation, Beast Feast which benefitted The Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation, and several events with U.S. Bartenders Guild of Las Vegas that have helped many other local charities.
Juyoung Kang will be a part of the judging panel for The Bartender Spirits Awards 2019.
