Northern Courage: From Building Other People's Brands to Creating His Own

22/06/2026 For most of his career, Jason Neri helped build brands that belonged to someone else.

He worked across some of the beverage industry's most recognised companies, spending more than fifteen years learning how products earn shelf space, how distributors make decisions, and how brands create lasting connections with consumers. Along the way, he developed a front-row view of what separates successful drinks companies from those that struggle to gain traction.

Eventually, a question emerged.

After years of helping launch, grow, and represent other brands, what would happen if he applied those same lessons to building one of his own?

That question became Northern Courage.

Founded by Neri, Northern Courage represents the culmination of a career spent immersed in the beverage alcohol industry. Before launching the company, he held positions with Breakthru Beverage, Jackson Family Wines, and New Belgium Brewing. Later, while overseeing the Central United States for an importing company, he played a role in developing brands including Sun Goddess Wines, JJ Corry Irish Whiskey, and Tequila Enemigo. Each experience contributed a different perspective on brand building, distribution, consumer engagement, and long-term growth. Together, they provided the foundation for his next chapter.

At the heart of Northern Courage is a belief that successful spirits brands are built on more than liquid alone.

Products matter. Quality matters. But lasting brands are often defined by the stories they tell, the relationships they cultivate, and the communities they create around them. That philosophy has shaped the company from the beginning and continues to guide its growth.

The name itself reflects a mindset that resonates throughout the business. Building a new spirits company in today's market requires conviction, patience, and a willingness to embrace uncertainty. Northern Courage was created around those values, recognising that entrepreneurship often demands the confidence to move forward long before outcomes are guaranteed.

The company's focus on Irish whiskey reflects both personal passion and a recognition of the category's growing global appeal.

Over the past decade, Irish whiskey has emerged as one of the most dynamic segments within premium spirits. Consumers increasingly seek authenticity, craftsmanship, and provenance, while retailers and hospitality professionals continue to embrace premium expressions that offer both quality and a compelling story. Northern Courage operates within that environment, introducing consumers to Irish whiskey through education, tastings, and direct engagement rather than relying solely on traditional marketing channels.

That hands-on approach is no accident.

Having spent years working across distribution, supplier management, and brand development, Neri understands that consumer trust is earned one interaction at a time. Building awareness requires consistency, persistence, and genuine enthusiasm for the category. It is a philosophy that mirrors the company's broader outlook: sustainable growth built through relationships rather than shortcuts.

Northern Courage also reflects a growing movement within the spirits industry toward founder-led brands. Consumers increasingly want to understand who is behind a product and why it exists. In many cases, the personal journey behind a brand becomes as important as the bottle itself.

For Northern Courage, that journey is grounded in experience.

Rather than emerging from inherited distilling traditions or a centuries-old family business, the company was created by someone who spent years observing how the industry operates from the inside. Neri's career provided an education in every stage of the process, from supplier relationships and distribution networks to consumer behaviour and market positioning. Northern Courage became an opportunity to bring those lessons together under a single vision.

The business has evolved as a family-driven venture, with a strong emphasis on personal connection, education, and brand advocacy. Through tastings, retailer partnerships, and direct consumer engagement, Northern Courage continues to build its presence one conversation at a time.

In many ways, the company's story reflects the realities of modern entrepreneurship within the beverage industry. Success is rarely immediate. Building awareness takes time. Establishing trust requires consistency. Creating a meaningful brand demands long-term commitment.

Those realities are reflected in the company's name.

Courage is often associated with dramatic moments, but in business it is more commonly found in persistence. It is the decision to keep building, keep learning, and keep believing in a vision long after the excitement of a launch has faded.

That perspective has shaped Northern Courage from the beginning.

For Jason Neri, the company represents more than a new business venture. It is the result of years spent learning the craft of brand building, combined with a willingness to take the lessons acquired throughout a career and apply them to something deeply personal.

In an industry crowded with products competing for attention, Northern Courage stands as a reminder that some of the most compelling brands are built not on hype, but on experience. Its story is not one of overnight success. It is the story of a beverage industry veteran who spent years helping others succeed before finding the courage to create something of his own.
